Comic restructuration complete

I’ve finished the restructuration of my Monster girls on tour comic; now the comic begins with the same old 3 first pages, but after those i’ve added a new 22 pages prologue. After that the pages are the same as old but i’ve changed the order to make it more readable. So here you can read the new prologue pages, or you can also re read the comic to see how it looks with the new rythm http://monstergirlsontour.smackjeeves.com/comics/2141812/1-ksara-the-salamander-warrior/

Monster girls restructuration

I’ve recently published a physical version of my Monster girls on tour comic to sell at Spanish conventions. With 200 pages it contains everything on the web till this point, plus the 2 first special adventures and some exclusive pages. And it has sold better than I expected, so I’ll at some point do a crowdfunding for an English version.

Now, I’ve read the comic entirely in one go to check how well the rhythm goes when taking all the story at once instead of a page each several days. I have to make some minor edits, but there’s one big edit that I’ll have to make to both the physical and online version. To explain why, I have to first lay out how Monster girls on tour came to be.

Originally, K’sara was a character created for my old webcomic Guild adventure. In that comic, a noobish and unconventional group of hunters try to start their walk to the top, only to find themselves into very big problems. The comic is full of the same “deconstruction” of the shonen tropes I use in MGoT, and one of the ways I did that was by trying to point out how for a series or protagonists to be popular, they actually have to be done badly. The simplest and unidimensional a story and characters are, the more full of overused tropes, the more people will understand and like them; that’s why complex characters or plots tend to win a faithful niche audience and be considered masterpieces but don’t become popular.

To show that, I created a group of “rivals” for the protagonists; a group that would be a stereotypical shonen protagonist group, with the typical MC who solves shit with the straightest approach and willpower; a rival/friend in the line of vegeta/goku or naruto/sasuke, and some retarded twins for comic relief. Thus, K’sara, Europa and the ants were born. And guess what? They became the most popular characters in the comic. Way to prove my point.

Sometime later, I created a fanzine with some other Spanish authors, and I decided that I could do a spin off adventure with K’sara as protagonist. It was supposed to be either a single issue thing or maybe just some small random adventures, one each year. K’sara also proved to be a popular character among the Spanish readers, and when we were doing the second issue of the fanzine, we thought of doing some random comic strips with our characters, to promote the fanzine. Thus, I created the first pages of MGoT you can see in my web; small, auto conclusive strips just making jokes of random shit with no story or cohesion. But then again, to keep fucking proving my point, this comic became more popular than Guild adventure.

By the point MGoT had been running for some months, I decided to start giving it a cohesive story and characters, and by the year it was already my main comic. By that time it already had a core story and normal comic structure, as you can see today. But the problem is, those first pages from the first months make absolutely no fucking sense. They are just random stuff that goes nowhere and even some of the topics are hard to get cause they reference internet memes. I can easily see how new readers would not understand what’s happening there and leave before it starts making sense; and in fact one guy told me so time ago. The beginning of a story is extremely important, because that’s what will decide if a reader keeps going or not. And right now the beginning of MGoT is not new reader friendly.

So, considering that, I think I’ll be making a reconstruction of the first pages. I’ll not redraw anything (that would be a never ending cycle) but I’ll change the order so the plot pages are all together and the more random ones will appear at the end of chapters, like I’m doing with the new ones. I’ll also release the first Special adventure, the one about the Ants, and put it at the beginning as the introduction of the story (as it happens some time before the webcomic begins). I have made some calculations in my mind and I think I can set it up as a very good start if I make a couple of text tweaks and do a couple of new covers and pages.

Of course, this will require a huge amount of work. Aside of drawing those new pages, I’ll have to reorder the entire beginning, and this will be no easy task on wordpress, because it doesn’t have a way to handle pages, i have to do it manualy, one by one. I’ll also have to change titles, links, re-color the special adventure into grayscale instead of tones, and then repeat the entire process for all of the websites were I publish the comic (medibang, amilova, smackjeeves, subcultura, etc). It’ll take a big amount of time, but I know I’ll not be satisfied with my comic until I do it.

Since it’s so much work, don’t expect it to happen anytime soon, but don’t be surprised if someday you see how the content begins to change. Also, I’ll change the Tier 5 reward of my patreon from the first special adventure to the second when the time comes. Feel free to comment what you think or ideas you may have to improve it.

Monster girls on Hentai is a new comic i’m doing, exclusively for my patreon supporters. The comic will be updated once a month only in my patreon. All people who support me for a specific ammount (you can see the Tiers on my patreon) will have access to the updates and all the pages released for the comic. http://patreon.com/kukuruyo

MGoH will consist of short pornographic scenes with the girls of my Monster girls on tour comic as protagonists. The scenes will be related to things that happen in the main comic, sometimes expanding on sexual situations from the comic itself. The first one is centered on Succubus, who reminds her younger days when she discovered she could get anything using her sexuality. You can see a free promo page here, and access the others by supporting me in patreon.
